Giveaway: All Sewn Up + Vintage Bunting Kit

Crafty giveaways don’t come better than this! To celebrate the inclusion of My Poppet’s Vintage Bunting Kit in the new book by Chloe Owens, All Sewn Up, we are giving away a signed copy of the book and a bunting kit to one lucky winner.

Like me, Chloe loves using colourful vintage fabrics in her projects. She combines them with contemporary prints and free style machine embroidery to create beautifully textured pieces.

And the love is mutual, here is what Chloe says about My Poppet:
“My Poppet has the most delicious array of vintage and handmade goodies! I thought the ‘make your own vintage bunting kit’ would fit perfectly within All Sewn Up for the ‘Stylish Scraps Bunting’ project as a lovely alternative to sourcing and cutting out your own”

So to be in the running to win this great prize, leave a comment on this blog post telling me about your proudest crafting moment. What did you make and why was it so special to you?

  1. My proudest moment would have to be the crochet cactus garden I made for my Mum… I learnt the craft specifically to make that for her as she is a landscape designer. She was thrilled and keeps it on her desk at work. :)

  2. My proudest crafting moment was the first wee skirt I made for my little girl that she wore out and about!

  3. I'm always pretty proud when I actually manage to FINISH something! But my proudest was a picture transfer onto a wooden block… Simple but I instantly fell in love with the finished product. I loved being able to display some of my favourite photos in such a unique way. P.S love your blog, always so bright & inspiring!

  4. I would say my proudest crafty moment was when I managed to do fabric clothing for my Day of the Dead clay dolls, just gave them a character.

  5. My proudest crafy moment was making a scrap book of my Mum's life (although it is still a work in progress!). I lost my Mother a few years ago to cancer and I have found doing this to be a very healing process. It has also been important to share these pages with my children, who sadly never got to meet such an incredible woman. I have loved sewing, painting, printing on all these pages. My mother was very crafty and I hope I have made her proud :-)

  6. My proudest crafting moment to date was completing (with the help of a good friend) a felted mushroom fairy house for my daughter – it has some wool embroidery on the walls, a wooden door with a tiny bell and small table and stools made from a cut up branch. My daughter is only one year old but it already has pride of place in her room (and in my heart).

  7. Ummm, I would have to say my proudest moment was the first presents I made for my students…. I'm a design teacher (high school), and I thought it would be nice to give my students something to remember their design education by, and to give them some encouragement throughout their uni life… so two little characters as well as an emblem and pattern were designed and gocco printed onto calico – character for the front, pattern for the back, emblem centered, and then stuffed! Iggy and Po (the “imaginables”) were born! They each came with an id card that gave inspirational messages, and reminded the students of some of the best design elements (favourites), as well as things to be avoided (allergies).
I still have a pair on my desk – they are very cute and remind me of that group of students. I've made something different every year, and am getting quite a collection of student memorabilia now! Good times :)

  8. My proudest crafting moment would have to be when I hear the squeal of excitement from my kids when I have made them a new toy…the cheeky grin & pure happiness in their eyes …..it gets me every time :)

  9. PJ edwards says:

We have three little children and are struggling on one wage. Two of my children have birthdays in the same week in June. What to buy and how to afford it was the daily question. I have decided to ditch the plastic battery operated toys and go eco-friendly! So I have made rockets for my children using calico, denim, fabric and felt scraps. They look great and are perfect for throwing around the room with a zoom zoom! pj_edwards@yahoo.com

  10. When I was about 13 years old I pestered my grandmother into buying me a massive cross stich pattern and materials for my birthday present. It was on linen, so I started out trying to stich over a single thread, had to rip it all out and start again….(this was pre google days people – there was no easy way to know how to start!) It was the first cross stitch I attempted, and I don't tend to do things by halves. No one thought I'd stick with it, but by the time I was 16 or so I had completed it, and have gone on to make many more. natalie@mikehill.org

  11. My proudest crafting moment was when I cross-stitched a hand towel for my Grandmother with a row of tiny, perfect mice dressed in suits, holding hands. Not really to my personal taste, but I was so thrilled when Gran declared she wasn't sure whether she would actually be able to use it because it was so beautiful (I urged her to do so). It was such a monumental task (to me) and I had actually stitched everything upside down. Instead of getting upset and being a perfectionist, I let all that go and just gave the gift with joy. I think that's where the proud feeling came in.

  12. My proudest moment was decorating my daughter's room for her 10th birthday-with lots of handmade goodies included-as a surprise.
It was magical to give her a special place(she has 4 brothers) to call her own.
    Thanks for the giveaway!!

  13. My proudest moment would have to be the patchwork quiltcover I made for my little girls – it was my first attempt at sewing in years, and took 6 months to make, but 5 years later and it is still being used and loved to death by them. I now love sewing and crafting at any opportunity and even more so when they want to join in. (adsnjads@gmail.com)

  14. I would have to say decorating the baby room. I turned a dark (walls were painted dark blue) small room into room full of light and love. The room is black and white with splashes of orange.

Almost everything in the room was thrifted and re-done. The lamp shades and the chair were re-covered; the cot and change table sanded back and re-stained; curtains made and walls painted; patchwork quilts, made for both bassinet and cot; to the artwork and photography on the walls, everything was crafted with love.

Only thing I didn't do was handmade toys and bunting. Wanted to, but wasn't sure how. Even my oldest child has asked for bunting in her room… something I must learn how to do.

  15. Some great comments so far, just remember to make sure I can contact you if you are the winner. Please make sure your email is enabled or you leave it in the comment. Thanks Cinti

  16. I think my proudest crafting moment was when I was in high school. My grade went on an excursion where we could wear 'mufti' clothes so I decided to sew a bag to take with me. It was a simple drawstring bag with a handle but I made it with a funky fabric (this is back in the 80's!). All my friends commented on the bag and some even offered to pay me to make a bag like it for them. I did end up sewing many more bags from that point. I didn't sell them though, instead I gave them as birthday gifts. I felt so proud of my achievement and it brought a smile to my face when I saw my friends use my creations as their favourite bag. I think this started not only my love of sewing, but my love of retro and vintage fabrics.

  17. My proudest crafting moment was when I was pregnant. I didn´t know very well how to use the sew machine, but I really wanted to do something adorable to my baby… So I dicided to do a blanket. I think the result was great. I miss that time! Here you can see some pictures: http://amenidadeseafins.blogspot.com.br/2011/02/foram-160-quadradinhos-ufa-minha.html

  18. I was pretty chuffed this past kids clothes week challenge hosted by Elsie marley. I managed to make 2 skirts, 2 shirts and 2 pairs of pants in one week. Now my machine is getting serviced!

  19. i made an adjustable fabric crown to go with my son's 2nd halloween costume (bird queen). it turned out beautiful and it's what got me in to my sewing!
    thanks for the giveaway chance!

  20. I think my proudest crafty moment was last winter when I finally finished knitting a pair of winter slippers for myself. I had hand painted the wool and love to crochet and knit simple things like scarves. I had my 'knitting' mother-in-law staying with us and she assured me it was simple to follow the pattern….frankly just looking at it freaked me out. With her patience and my patience (I guess) I did it and now am happy that it is finally cooling down at night so I can wear them again.
Love your blog and just shared this giveaway on my blog too!!!♥Jo

  22. Gorgeous bunting :-) My proudest crafting moment was teaching myself to knit while expecting my 2nd bub and turning my squares of different stitches into a beautiful cot blanket for her

  23. I'm really proud of the Spotty Dog costume I made for my three year old just before Christmas. She absolutely loves it and looks so adorable in it!

  24. I relatively recently started making jewellery AND blogging about it, and to challenge myself I did a blog hop with some really talented jewellery designers. Amazingly enough, my finished pieces looked pretty good, even alongside some truly excellent creations! Very proud of myself for that! (melissa_trudinger at yahoo dot com)

  25. Hmmm, my proudest sewing/crafty moment? Making a 'creature' for my daughter Piper without a pattern & without having much of an idea of what to do! Then one day while pregnant with number two Pip dropped him while we were at the shops – & when we went back in search of him we found a lady trying to nick it for her kids! Pip has now put it in Number 3's cot as she (im)patiently awaits their arrival!

  26. definitely my one and only quilt. it wasnt really hard to make, just that it was my first. !

  27. kirri raper says:

My proudest moment was the first time i was asked to fill a gallery window in a little seaside town. I'm 24 and have suffered 15 years of illness which completely interfered with my school studies, all this time i continued with my art and finally managed to get to art college, i chose a university and was accepted but i only managed 3 months before i was back in hospital. i continued with my textiles when the gallery contacted me and asked if i could display some of my creations. This is what gave me my new fight in life and i have continued to create work and since then have raised over £700 pounds for local charities. I hope to continue this again this year with another Tea, cake and crafts afternoon. Thank you for such a lovely site and a great give away lots of love x

  28. My proudest crafty moment came the other day, when after hours of hard work and inhaling far too many embossing fumes, my fiance and I finally finished making our wedding invitations. I was nervous about sending people something so personal especially as weddings can be a time when people judge all your choices but they were actually mistaken as having been commissioned from a proffessional! I was so pleased people liked them and it has increased my confidence in crafting lots of other pieces for the upcoming wedding this summer which has an old English village fete theme to it. Now I can't wait for everyone to see my makes, and of course to be married to my lovely man!

  29. I think one of my most proud crafting moments would be when I made a bumper for my daughter's crib. I never like to follow the crowd and how I wanted my crib to look was no different. I just couldn't bring myself to buy a store bought one… but I had never made anything like that that before and was terrified!! It ended up turning out so great and I even used the fancy cording on the edge ( not sure of the technical terms of that!). My babies have since grown out of that crib but I have the bumper tucked away as a keepsake… definately a proud crafting moment! :)

  30. My proudest crafting moment was making my first peg doll http://webloomhere.blogspot.com/2010/12/southern-hemisphere-seasonal-exchange.html

Since that first one, I've made so many tiny dolls, met so many nice people because of these little dolls, and apparently inspired many people to try out making little dolls for themselves…

Thank you for the opportunity to win these lovely items (I hope this is open to US residents, too…)

    Cheers!

  31. So many amazing comments so far, loving all of your stories.

  32. Oh hooray and a huge congratulations to you Miss Cinti on the inclusion of your gorgeous bunting in that super cute book.
I think my proudest craft momnet is whenever I finish something that works out like I had hoped. Even better if it is something someone loves and wears. Recently I knitted myself a shawl and my 11 year old has stolen it and has worn it to school everyday since. That is definitely a proud crafter mama moment.
    Fingers crossed. x

  33. What a gorgeous giveaway! Chloe's book and your bunting kit are both so beautiful!
My proudest crafting moment was when my daughter opened her birthday gift of a quilt for her bed – the very first quilt I'd made since my high school textiles class.
My daughter continues to be so proud of what I created for her. Hopefully my next proudest crafting moments will be when I'm able to give my two sons quilts I've made for them!

  34. Congratulations… your bunting is super cute. My Miss 10 encouraged me to make her a quilt. She said 'it doesn't matter if it's not perfect, just try your best mum' and so reluctantly I did try my best. And it turned out a treat is much loved and snuggled under. Definately a proud mama moment for me. Thank you for the opportunity to win your sweet bunting pack and to remember my proud mama moment as well.

  35. What a lovely giveaway! I think my proudest crafting moment was when I made my first dress! I was all nervous and excited about starting it but when I came across the perfect fabric (black with red polka dots), I dived on in and couldn't believe it when I saw the finished piece…and more importantly that if fitted (with a bit of tweaking! ;-) ). I still have the dress and it's my favourite! Thanks for the chance to win! :-)

  36. My proudest moment was when I was 11 years old and my mum taught me how to cut a pattern and sew an a-line skirt. I wore that skirt everywhere and while I cant fit into it now after having two kids I still have it. It reminds me of the time where I would sit and learn from my mum. Good times

  37. My proudest moment so far was after I had finished piecing together a scraps quilt for my dogs … and they sleep on it! I was pretty pleased with myself for being able to put it together but to actually see it being used for its indented purpose, that was kind of cool :) Am now working on a lap blanket for myself as practice for a baby blanket for friends – I'm pretty sure that seeing that one in use will trump anything I've done to date.

  38. My proudest moment is when I completed my son's teepee from your tutorial! I was only just given a sewing machine for my birthday last week, and have never sewed anything in my life! I am stoked with the end result and my son is super excited about his Teepee!

  39. One of my proudest crafting moments would have to be when I helped my older sister make her first dress. Sharing my obsession- er I mean passion- with her and being able to talk sew geeky was lovely. And the look on her face when she had made something was really beautiful. bryanna.griffin@gmail.com

  40. My proudest moment was finally finishing a little dress for my youngest girl. It was a milestone as had never completed a dress before and one of my first projects completed after having the twins…finally had a little time to complete something, and something to show for it (other than clean dishes).

  41. My proudest crafting moment would probably be the curtains I made for my craft room. I had a gorgeous fabric, just a tad more than what I would need to do the curtains (as in, couldn't re-try if I completely messed up!) … the fabric has big squares on it and they are lined up on the two panels, and the loops for hanging are pretty evenly spaced. I love the curtains :)

  42. Sharon Fawcett says:

My proudest moment would be when I was 8 years old and finger knitted an entire ball of Mum's wool. I was so proud and for some reason she was really annoyed!

    sharon7999@yahoo.com

  43. My proudest moment would be the first pair of pants I made my baby. They looked great, and lasted for ages and from that pair I've gone on to sew much more which has given me something I love and can share with others. Thanks for the giveaway, the book looks great : )

  44. My proudest moment was when I knit a little vest for my (then) 3 month old daughter. I was such a great moment to have followed a knitting pattern for the first time ever!!Now my second daughter is wearing that vest and getting compliments and it still makes me proud to say I made it.

My proudest crafting moment was when a bag I made was featured in the Flickr friends roundup of One Pretty Thing. How cool is that for a Dutch girl!

  47. My proudest crafty moment was making a dress completely out of ties with my mum at the age of eleven (which was 2 years ago) It looked pretty awesome and I wore it for a recycled fashion show. You never really know how long ties are until you make a dress out of them!

look on my blog for a pic: http://anonymus-craftykid.blogspot.co.uk/

  49. Mine is definitely being assigned to the assistant's spot, while my 9 year old marvelously crafted a Sally dog during a class with Jodie from Ric Rac. In less than 6 hours she had completed the project start to finish, with little help from mum and the look of accomplishment on her face at the end was amazing. A day with my small girl that I shall always treasure.

  50. My proudest crafting moment was the first time I used a rotary cutter and then machine pieced a quilt. Those beautiful lined up seams made me supremely happy! (previous to that I had just done paper piecing)

  51. My proudest crafting moment must have been when i finished the first quilt i ever made for the birth of our first daughter. However, my happiest crafting moment was when that same daughter and I both made a doll for the arrival of the second daughter. Congratulations on the publication.

  52. My proudest moment is learning to knit. I have only just started, so its all very new and im still learning, but this wannabe crafter with a crafting disability, i'm quite proud.

  53. My proudest moment is when I made a “Good Morning Daddy” pillowslip for my husband, with my first son's face as all of the “O”s and “a”s. It had “Good Night Daddy” on the opposite side. It was simple but made them both so happy.

  54. Good job on your inclusion in the book:) you must be very proud:)

My proudest crafty moments are when I am able to help my students – my high school kids or crafty class students – complete something they are proud of! Their level of success is super varied but their happiness is an awesome moment:)

Also when people ask my lovely niece about her handmade clothes and she says with pride “My Lanny made it!”
I'm glad I can make her feel special and beautiful in her day:)

  55. I made a cake bunting for my daughters first birthday. I took forever in Spotlight choosing the right floral fabrics and then used four little flags of linen to write 'Tess' on. We had the party in a park not far from home and when I arrived at the park to set up the party I realised that I had left the cake bunting at home. I almost cried as I was so proud of it and really wanted her cake to look special. Luckily my gorgeous husband drove back home to pick it up for me.

  56. Not being an excellent sewer, I was so proud when I made my daughters ballet tutu!!!. It was stunning, it took hours of sewing then embellishing with ribbons and sequins, but I did it!! and she looked gorgeous ☻

  57. My proudest craft moment was when I made a patchwork dog using vintage scraps of fabric. I had never made anything patchwork, stuffed, 3D or anything and as I was making it, definatly felt I couldnt finish, but did and I made it for my neices 1st birthday! What makes me feel special is that she apparently has to have it with her in the cot every night to sleep! That makes me feel special. Also didnt expect to win a prize, and entered a photo of it in to another facebook comp and was one of the winners! Definatly a proud moment! Heres a link http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150323971978714.400148.723558713&type=3#!/photo.php?fbid=10150434487458714&set=a.10150323971978714.400148.723558713&type=3&theater to the pic if interested! Thanks for this opportunity to win such a lovely prize!

  58. My proudest moment was when i finished my first nappy cover, i love to sew and i learnt from my mum, this inspired me to open a facebook page

Ah, this is a hard question to answer! I was going to say some of the decorations I've made for b'days, Easter & Christmas and the gifts I've helped my 3 boys make for teachers and classmates…but then I thought about last year…how we invited my son's whole class over for a Christmas craft afternoon. The kids made baubles, wrapping paper and fingerprinted cards. It was so cool seeing our house overtaken by 6 year olds who were stoked at making something homemade for their family/friends and who were excited about using new materials and learning new techniques. Will do it again soon! Ali.m.saunders@gmail.com

  60. I crocheted a pram blanket when I was pregnant and didn't really tell anyone about it. When my daughter was born and I was able to use it I got so many complements for it. I was so proud of myself!

    beebeeoko@gmail.com

  61. My proudest moment is…… When my son took a completely crafted birthday present to a friends birthday party. The little girl loved dogs so we made her a dog house with a dog wooden people family! And a crafted necklace. I was so proud. And it was amazing. And also one of a kind.

  62. hmmmm i think making my daughter a library bag – she uses this every week to ferry book back and forth and is super quick to tell anyone who asks that her mama made it for her xx

  63. Giveaway entries now closed. Thanks for all your amazing comments -good luck !
