The Humanimals – A Kids’ Cabaret the Whole Family will Enjoy

Cabaret Cathedral

The last thing you expect to encounter in the Mornington Peninsula’s seaside resort town of Rye is a Baroque Cabaret Theatre. It sits on the foreshore comfortably alongside the old-school carnival that has been a Rye Summer fixture since the 50’s, and it’s imposing facade just beckons you to go in and be entertained.

Cabaret Cathedral” is the creation of Jason Coleman and has been constructed entirely from repurposed shipping containers. Traditional with a contemporary twist – right up my alley.

Emma and I headed down to Rye to see The Humanimals, a cabaret show for the whole family. The Humanimals is an ‘All Human Animal Experience’ with singing, dancing and acrobatic performances.

The Humanimals - Cabaret Cathedral review

I’ve been to my fair share of kid’s theatre, and although they cater to the kids brilliantly, often I find myself getting a little bored. Well I can tell you this absolutely wasn’t the case with The Humanimals, there were clever parodies, punny jokes and pop culture reference galore;  I was in stitches for most of the show.

The Humanimals - Cabaret Cathedral review

The performances were very immersive, Emma and I both loved the amazing acrobatic performances, and in one act, the whole theatre was transformed into and underwater experience. I don’t want to give away too much, because it was such a delightful surprise, but it even snowed! I’ll say no more.

The Humanimals - Cabaret Cathedral review

This show brings the tradition of cabaret to a new generation and is thoroughly entertaining for the whole family, I mean any show with a tap dancing stick insect is number one in my book. If you are heading down to the Mornington Peninsula these school holidays, add a little cabaret to your day.
