Mouth Watering Sweet & Sticky Pork + Travels to Hong Kong

A few years ago we took a family trip to Hong Kong, it’s an amazing city, bustling, dazzling, and at times, oppressive and overwhelming. So many sparking lights, and people rushing around in every direction like worker bees, and then you get onto the harbour, and the crossing on the star ferry is like a short sweet respite before the hum starts again on the other side.

The iconic view is like a real life post cards you want to hold in your minds eye as long as possible. Initially I was unprepared for it all and a little overwhelmed by it’s sheer vibrancy, like a child that is overstimulated by all the light and sounds, but it only took a day or two to fall into step and feel like I was part of the bustle.

We had such a memorable time on our last trip that we are visiting again later this year. Emma was only fifteen months when we were there last (and quite the celebrity). It will be a totally different experience this time around.

My favourite part of any trip is it’s food culture and of course eating! Hong Kong is jam packed with hawker markets and restaurants that spill out on the street, cake shops and food markets with all their strange and/or wonderful aromas and sometimes unrecognizable edibles.

You really get immersed in the feel of a city when you wander around wet markets with live eels in tubs and all manner of interesting foods on display. And did I mention how much they love pork? It’s a Hong Kong staple, my mouth is watering just thinking about all the char siu I’m going to eat!

We are counting down the days till we head off again, but in the meantime I’ll have to satisfy my cravings for sweet and sticky pork with Maggi’s new Just for 2 Sweet and Sticky pork recipe base. Containing a a unique blend of flavours such as Cinnamon, Star Anise, Cloves and Chilli, it’s probably as authentic as I’ll get without buying a million ingredients or resorting to take away. And because it’s designed for portions of Just 2, there is no wastage.
