As the weather warms up it can be hard to keep the family hydrated, sure plain water is good for you, but it can get boring after a while, and is no fun when you’re entertaining. Rather than opting for soft drinks, that are just full of sugar, I’ve got some tasty, non-sugary sparkling water drink creations, that the whole family will enjoy.

We were sent a new SodaStream Spirit to try out, with a challenge – Let Emma become a young inventor and create her own unique amazing drink creations. Challenge accepted!

shopping list

She started off making a list of her favourite fruity ingredients, thinking about what flavours work well in drink. With her shopping list sorted we headed to the supermarket to pick up some supplies.

And then the fun began. We chopped, sliced and pureed and came up with some crazy concoctions. Half of the fruit got eaten before it even went in the glass, (which is good I guess). Emma let me press the magic button to add the bubbles, which is my favourite part of the whole process.

3 Fun Fruit Infused Sparkling Water Recipes

Here are our best creations, we’ve narrowed it down to three. All of them refreshing and with no added sugar. These would also make a great flavour base for Summer cocktails if you’re entertaining a more ‘mature’ crowd.

I’ve listed the ingredients required for a one glass serve, but you can always scale it up and make a jug to serve the whole family.

Rainbow Fruit Spritzer

Emma created this colourful layered drink with all her favourite ingredients. It has the added bonus that you can eat the fruit when you’ve finished your drink so it’s full of vitamins too!

Mango Fizz

We love mango, it’s the ultimate taste of Summer. This easy to make drink has a foamy top similar to a float, but without all the added sugar. You can puree your mango ahead of time and freeze it in ice cube trays for convenience. Just pop one or two out in a glass, or several into a jug, and allow to defrost before adding your sparkling water.

Cinti’s Thirst Quencher

I like my soda water fairly simple, it’s pretty refreshing on it’s own, but adding some zingy lemon, cucumber and mint really takes it to the next level. I call this combination the Thirst Quencher. I think the only thing that could improve this combination on a hot Summer’s evening is a shot of Gin. Spiked or not, it’s up to you.

Why I love my SodaStream

We’ve been SodaStream converts for years here at Casa My Poppet, the Mr bought one home after getting tired of lugging bottles of drink home from the supermarket every week, (we drink a ton of sparkling water).

Our original unit wasn’t as attractive as the new SodaStream Spirit, so it was tucked away in a cupboard, but now the Spirit lives on the counter right next to the coffee machine looking very fancy! My mum has already claimed our older model, another SodaStream convert in the family.

SodaStream Spirit

There are so many reasons to love SodaStream – Not only is it super convenient to make sparkling water from ordinary tap water at the touch of a button, I’m also happy that we’ve cut down on unnecessary plastic bottle waste.

One gas canister makes 60L of sparking water which is equivalent to 48 1.25L plastic bottles – now that’s a whole lot of waste reduction. And we save money too.

You can exchange your SodaStream gas canister at any Coles Express for only $19, which means that we only pay the equivalent of 32c per litre of fizzy water, half the cost of even the cheapest brand of soda water at the supermarket. I’m all smiles!
