What we’re looking forward to at Oz Comic-Con Melbourne

Oz Comic-Con is back in Melbourne this June long weekend and I have a family pass to giveaway to one lucky reader.

We’ve been going to Oz Comic-Con for a number of years now and it’s become a permanent fixture in the kiddo’s calendar, along with her birthday and Christmas. Yes, she really looks forward to it as much as a visit from Santa!

Emma (aka Poison Ivy) with her DC Bombshells gang at Oz Comic-Con Melbourne 2017

Emma really enjoys planning her cosplay, and I must admit, I really love making her costumes. We always have fun taking photos with other cosplayers on the show floor and watching the Cosplay parades.

Not into Cosplay? Don’t worry, Oz Comic-Con Melbourne has something for all lovers of pop culture – appearances by film and television stars, comic book artists and voice actors; gaming demonstrations, creative workshops and master classes; and hard-to-find exclusive merchandise from vendors.

There’s also a number of fun features for the whole family to enjoy. A family activity room in which younger children can take part in arts and crafts activities, kids comic artist workshops and a dedicated Kids Cosplay Competition for kids who love to dress up and show off their costumes.

What we’re looking forward to at this year’s Oz Comic-Con Melbourne

  • Watching the Australian Championships of Cosplay – where the best cosplayers in Australia vie for the national title and a chance to represent Australia internationally. The costumes are always amazing.
  • Making new cosplay friends – Chatting and taking photos with other cosplayers is really a highlight of the event for Emma. It’s exciting to see how passionate people are about their favourite characters, and everyone is so generous with their time, knowledge and encouragement. The cosplay community is amazing.
  • Kids Cosplay Parade – Emma has entered every year, and it’s awesome to see her up on stage proudly strutting her stuff.

Here are some of our highlights from last year’s event – Oz Comic-Con Melbourne 2017

Who will Emma dress up as this year? The decision is still not finalised but I’ve got a feeling it will be a character from the Harry Potter universe (her current pop culture obsession).

My 14 year old has made herself (with the help of her grandmother) a Sailor Moon outfit… well actually it’s one of the other characters but the only one I know is Sailor Moon lol but it’s very cool and she’s desperate to go to Comic-Con so she can wear it!

  • Casey West says:

I think we’ll most likely be a combination of Doctors and Companions. My son’s favorite would be 10 or 11 so I’ll most likely go as a companion of his choice …. although my daughter loves Harry Potter so it may be wands and cloaks. I’ve never been before and am really looking forward to it! 🙂

Yay Casey, get your costumes ready because you are going to Oz Comic-Con this weekend. Check your inbox.

We are looking forward to going as Batman’s Rogues gallery this year, the past few years we have gone as superheros and have decided to change it up this year. Can’t wait to make memories with my little ones this year!

  • Diana says:

Hubby as the Dark Lord, Darth Vader.
Me, Leia Organa (not bikini clad Jabba the Hut style Leia, or possibly the white gown Leia or perhaps her General attire) OR if I haven’t shaved, definitely Chewbacca (lol).
And the kids as adorable little Ewoks.

  • Ern says:

If I dress up it’ll be as Loki, so I drive my wife crazy with desire.
Both kids just said they want to go as Pokemon.

  • DIANA O says:

I’d love to dress up as Wonder Woman, posing with all the punters…….now if only I could ditch kids and husband, hmmmmmm or I could dress them up as something stationary, like the Tardis.

  • Abby says:

I was a bit late for it this year but I’ll be more orginized next year aha. Going to make a DC Bombshell’s Wonder Woman cosplay costume with my mum x

  • sam says:

    awsome superman to the rescue

  • Stephanie says:

My family will go as Doctor Who, with my 2 little darling Daleks, Dad as the Doctor and I’d go as a Weeping Angel.

Boys are excited to attend their first Comic-con, even had their Power Rangers costume especially made-up and ordered from Thailand. I’ll be dressed from head to toe in Pink Power Ranger outfit. Looking forward to join and meet the cosplay community and be inspired by their creative costumes.

  • Rebecca Costa says:

I’m hoping to go as my own version of wonder woman again, lol and I’m sure son will go as either as someone from fortnite or himself. Hard to get teenagers to dress up these days.

  • Adam Colbran says:

Our family is super excited to attend comic-con. As scooby doo and the gang. It would be a blast from the past. And getting to experience something new.

  • Jo Healy says:

According to Milo (age 11) he will dress as Spiderman. Not the old fashioned Original Spiderman, or the Amazing Spiderman, or Homecoming Spiderman. Obviously, he will be dressing as the Infinity War Spiderman, hence wearing the Iron Spider costume. He assures me, you’ll know exactly what that means…..

  • Melissa G says:

I have Miraculous Ladybug and Sailor Moon wannabes on my hands.
As for me, well, had I more time I would want to go as Voltron.

  • Amy Barnhouse says:

My son wants to dress as Thor, my daughter wants to go as Wasp, therefore I must go as Black Widow. Avengers Assemble!

  • Sarah says:

I’m hoping to go as Rosalina from the Mario Bros. universe. I made the gown last year, and maneuvering the hoop skirt is something I’m both dreading and looking forward to. Just got to figure out that gravity defying wig first!
