It’s an exciting time when a visit from the Tooth Fairy is imminent. There are so many different ways to present those little baby teeth to the tooth fairy – a tooth under a pillow, in glass of water or even tucked away safely in a tooth shaped pouch or pillow.
Me? I’m particularly partial to making tooth shaped pouches and have made quite a few in the past couple of years. Feeling the need for a change though, I wondered how I could re-imagine the tooth fairy pouch – here’s the result. I present the Mouthy Tooth Pouch!
Let’s make this happen!
Make a Mouthy Lost Tooth Pouch
You will need:
- Felt in three colours – white, skin tone*, and a lip colour*
- Needle
- Thread – matching lip colour
- Fabric marker [air drying] or chalk
- Fabric scissors
- Dress makers pins
* Your choice of colours
Note: This tooth pouch will fit a 50c coin snugly. If you want to make a larger tooth pouch, simply increase the scale of the template when printing it out.
How to:
1/ Print template at 100% and cut out the pattern pieces.
2/ Pin the top and bottom teeth pieces to the inside-mouth piece. Make sure the teeth are spaced apart and not too close to the outer edge.
3/ Sew across the upper edge of the top teeth, and the lower edge of the bottom teeth.
4/ Layer and pin together the foundation, inside-mouth and lip pieces, ensuring that the teeth can be seen between the lips.
5/ Blanket-stitch along the outer edge of the three layers to close the tooth pouch.
6/ There you have it! Your very own Mouthy Tooth Pouch. You’ll be able to slip that fallen tooth into the mouth pocket. In return the tooth fairy will be able to fit a coin as large as a 50c coin. To fit a large coin: slot it into the ‘top teeth’ pocket, then grab the ‘bottom teeth’ and pull over the coin.
