Knitted Hot Cross Bun for Easter

One of my favourite things about the lead up to Easter are the delicious Hot Cross Buns, I’ve eaten my fair share already. As I was munching on one whilst knitting, I had a brain wave – A Knitted Hot Cross Bun!

I’m becoming more and more confident with my knitting since I started last year, so I thought it was time that I shared instructions for a knitted project on the blog.

This is quite a simple pattern that only required a few basic skills to make. If you know how to cast on and off, knit and purl and stitch seams together you are set.

I also use a fun technique to make i-cord for the bun icing. If you aren’t familiar with i-cord I’ve made a little instructional video that you can follow.

I’m new to knitted pattern writing so please forgive any vagueness.

Now sew up matching sides as labelled, remember to leave one side opened for stuffing. (Don’t worry if the bits don’t fit together perfectly, you can adjust slightly as you sew, my sides were a little long so I tucked them in when I stitched)

All done! Yum, it looks good enough to eat.

Emma loves to trick her dad with it every day, he pretends to eat it and then she thinks she has pulled a hilarious prank.

If you are really keen you can knit a half dozen and give them as cute Easter gifts.

    Hi

I have knitted your lovely hot cross bun project, but am having a problem with the sewing up instructions. I think it would have been good if you had included showing how this was done etc.
In your tutorial.Hopefully I will be able to complete this and more to give to my granddaughter.

    Cheers
    Cheryl

I have just knitted all the pieces for six hot cross buns. Tomorrow l am going to sew them up and finish them off ready to be delivered!!
They are perfect for my son who loves hot cross buns but can’t have them due to his current illness. He will definitely love these. I am going to put them in a bag the same as the other real ones and see if he notices!!
Thank you for this awesome pattern. Very much appreciated.
    Have the best Easter!

This pattern really made me smile. I wish I had come across it before Easter (it is now Easter Monday) so I could knit several. I often make post box toppers, so I have saved the pattern and it is on my list for next year. Thank you and Happy Easter.
