Emma has always been fascinated with the Mexican Day of the Dead celebration and imagery. When she was in kinder she even organised a Mexican festival day for the whole class with music and dancing.<\/p>\n

Now that Dia de los Muertos<\/a><\/em> is approaching, I thought it would be fun to create a FREE printable Sugar Skull colouring page to keep the kids entertained, and introduce them to this colourful cultural festivity.<\/p>\n

About Dia de los Muertos<\/em> – Day of the Dead<\/h3>\n

Dia de los Muertos, <\/a><\/em>T<\/a>he Day of the Dead, is a holiday<\/a> celebrated on November 1 & 2 in many Latin American countries in various ways, but it most strongly a associated with Mexico, where the tradition originate<\/a>d. Celebrated on All Saints Day it’s a custom that combines indigenous<\/a> Aztec<\/a> ritual<\/a> with Catholicism<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On those days, many people in parts of Latin America construct altars in their homes to honor their deceased relatives and they decorate them with flowers and candies and other offerings.<\/p>\n

A common symbol of the holiday is the skull in (calavera<\/i>) and sugar skulls can be given as gifts to both the living and the dead.<\/p>\n

Recently the Day of the Dead iconography has become associated with Halloween which falls at a similar time, and even though their origins differ, they both originate from the tradition of remembering the departed.<\/p>\n

Sugar Skull Colouring Page – Free Printable<\/h2>\n

I love the vibrant colours and floral motifs used to embellish sugar skulls so I thought it would make the perfect colouring page with lots of details to decorate.<\/p>\n

I didn’t originally intend on creating a colouring page, this design is actually a by-product of another fun craft activity I’ve designed – Decorate a Sugar Skull Printable Activity Page<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Print as many copies as you like for personal use. It’s designed to fit on an A4 page so if you are using a different sized paper, just select ‘fit to page’ on your printer settings.<\/p>\n
