What are Thai Fisherman Pants?<\/h3>\n

With a little research, and I discovered there’s a bit of history behind these simple wrap pants.<\/p>\n

This style of adjustable waist wrap pants are known as Thai fishermen pants<\/strong>. Why? Because this pant style originates in Thailand, specifically at a time when Thailand was known as Siam. Their origin dates back to the 1880s<\/p>\n

Fun fact:<\/strong> Siam was renamed Thailand in 1932 as part of a move to modernize the country.<\/p>\n

When fishermen pants first appeared on the scene, they were a thoroughly modern piece of attire. At the time, European techniques for sewn garments were starting to make an impact in Siam, leading to the creation of Thai fishermen pants.<\/p>\n

They are made wide in the waist so that ‘one size fits all’ (in theory anyway)!<\/p>\n

How to Tie Thai Fisherman Pants?<\/h3>\n

Thai Fisherman pants are very adjustable and easy to wrap and tie once you get the hang of it.<\/p>\n

The width of the waist band is folded around the waist and secured by the fabric ties to form a belt. Then the excess waistband fabric is folded down over the waist knot.<\/p>\n

There are two main ways to fold and wear Thai fisherman pant as shown in the video above:
\n1. Center fold – both sides into the center
\n2. Side fold – Pull all the excess fabric to one side then overlap over the front<\/p>\n
