Hooray! After watching me stitch she is finally taking an interest in trying it herself.<\/p>\n<p>She described to me in detail how she would push the &#8216;very sharp&#8217; needle in the fabric and not get hurt because she is &#8216;a big girl now and knows how to do it&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Lack of confidence has never been Emma&#8217;s problem, but the reality is her fine motor skills still need some work, so going straight to a needle and thread would be super frustrating for her. So I improvised a weaving activity that would develop her motor skills and the very basic concept of sewing with a plastic canvas and pipecleaners.<\/p>\n<h2>You will need:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Plastic canvas<\/li>\n<li>Assorted pipe cleaners<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7312 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/mypoppet.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/pipecleaner-weaving-1.jpg\" alt=\"pipecleaner sewing or weaving\" width=\"600\" height=\"430\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mypoppet.com.au\/makes\/mp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/pipecleaner-weaving-1.jpg 600w, https:\/\/mypoppet.com.au\/makes\/mp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/pipecleaner-weaving-1-300x215.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>How to:<\/h2>\n<p>Watch Emma explain how to do &#8216;sewing&#8217; as she presents her own video tutorial.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/y5RoTDrTXh8?rel=0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Let your child weave and bend the pipe cleaners through the canvas.
