\nI’ve become a little obsessed with making quilts lately. It’s probably because all the construction going on at home (although technically it’s still demolition) is driving me a little batty and I’m finding the methodical process of assembling a quilt and then stitching it all quite soothing. I’ve finished three in the past couple of weeks and am planing on making another two as Christmas gifts.
\nI had fun making this quilt and it was fun to put together because the angles that look a little tricky are all cut freestyle. Using brightly coloured fabric remnants against the grey make the arrow shapes really pop.
\nI’ve added a little surprise to the back of this quilt as a little tribute to purpose it was made for.<\/p>\n

Measurements are in inches but I have included metric conversions for fabric quantities.<\/p>\n


\nApproximate Finished size = 60″x50″ (125cm x 150cm)<\/p>\n

You will need:<\/h2>\n

1 & 1\/3 yard (215cm) Grey\/neutral, quilting cotton, fine check or linen (no directional prints). width min 42″ (110cm)
\n30 Assorted fabric scraps, min size 8×8″ (20cmx20cm)
\nQuilt batting (cotton or blend) slightly larger than finished size
\nBacking fabric slightly larger than finished size
\n7 yards (5.7m) Quilt binding of your choice
\nRotary cutter, quilting ruler and cutting mat.
\n1\/4″ sewing foot
\nGeneral quilting and sewing supplies<\/p>\n

How to:<\/h2>\n

\"Arrow
\n1. Cut 30, 10.5″ squares from neutral fabric, each square will be one block.
\n2. Place straight edge of fabric scrap over one corner at an angle right sides together.
\n3. Sew and trim excess.
\n4. Flip and press
\n5. Trim square.
\nYou don’t have to be exact (unless you want a less random arrow shape)
\nArrange blocks as pictured.

\nJoin blocks with 1\/4″ seams, join to form rows first then join rows together.

\nQuilt and bind as desired.
\nI’ve chosen to free motion quilt a free style bubble design with neon thread all over this quilt, but straight line quilting would work great for this design too.
