Emma’s Flower Garden Birthday Party (& Devilled Egg recipe)

Flower Garden Birthday Party Theme mypoppet.com.au
Emma’s birthday always sneaks up on me. It’s usually around the same time as Easter so all the chocolate bunny hoopla tends to be quite a distraction. I always have the best intentions for organizing a proper party and actually inviting her little friends, but alas, between school holidays and the Easter break, it never happened.
Luckily for Emma, her aunts, cousins, and grandparents kept calling me to find out ‘what time they should come over for the party?’, so like it or not, I had to throw a party!

So what does a time poor mum do when she needs a little birthday party theme inspiration? Get out the old Women’s Weekly Birthday cake book and hit Pinterest of course!

Easy Recipe: Two Minute Chocolate Brownie in a Mug

Microwave brownie recipe vegan chocolate
Craving a little chocolate fix? Well if you have a few minutes and a microwave, you can make this Easy Chocolate Brownie in a Mug Recipe
I discovered this recipe on one of those unsourced Pinterest internet hint meme things. It’s super easy and just the thing to satisfy a Chocolate craving without baking a whole cake.
I shared the recipe last week in the My Poppet newsletter, and have had so many lovely thank you emails, that sharing it on the blog was the least I could do.
Make some for the kids as an afternoon surprise, ice cream is optional but makes this treat extra special.

Ingredients
1/4 cup sugar (I used a little less)
1/4 cup SR flour
2 tbsp cocoa
pinch of salt
2 tbsp olive oil
3 tbsp water (I added an extra one)

Method
Combine all the dry ingredients in a mug, add oil and water and mix well till combined. If it’s too dry add a little extra water.
Microwave for 1 min 40 sec
Bing! All done. Careful it’s hot.
Cake has a slightly dry consistency so feel free to add liberal amounts of ice cream whilst still warm.

Hardly any washing up – You’re welcome!

Santa Cookies – a festive treat

Santa cookies biscuits recipe

I’m really looking forward to Christmas preparations this year. Emma is getting super excited at any glimpse of tinsel and has already requested a pony!! I’m hoping by making gifts and treats together she can start learning that Christmas is not just about opening presents, but about generosity and giving. We had a fun time making these Santa shaped cookies, and she did lots of the actual making herself.

There was a mini debate at home over nomenclature. Are they cookies or biscuits? Well it depends where you are from, but no matter what you call them, they’re super cute, tasty and fun to make.
