Yesterday I was invited to participate in a Photographic Walking Tour at the Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show with the team at Canon Collective.
Although I do like looking at the floral displays I’m no green thumb so it was just as well that I was there to learn some new photography skills.
And WOW did I learn some skills! I’ve been struggling to take a decent shot with my new camera, a Canon D70 since I bought it last year, so this workshop was the perfect way to really understand what I was doing wrong.
The simple answer – take that sucker off Auto and use the Light Meter.
I’ve always been scared of going fully manual on my DSLRs but after yesterdays workshop with the Canon Collective team, I’ll never go back to Auto mode again.
We got to play with some very nice macro lenses to take some really spectacular close up shots whilst learning about light at the same time.
Here are some of my favourite photos that I shot. They are pretty much straight out of the camera, no Photoshop here.
