With Trick or Treating and Halloween Parties off the cards this year, Emma and I are getting into the ‘spirit’ of the spooky season by enjoying some classic frightfully fun Movies in the lead up to Halloween.

Take our lead and enjoy a fun night, week or month of Family Halloween Movies – Whip up some caramel popcorn and maybe even decorate your TV room especially for your Halloween Movie Night!

You could even dress up like a character in your favourite movie!

Since all kids can have a different tolerance to what’s scary, I’ve put together a list of our favourite spooky movies that won’t scare the pants off your kids.

Littlies will enjoy the cute animated characters in Monsters Inc, Casper and Wallace & Gromit. Good witches abound in the Japanese gems from Studio Ghibli, Kiki’s Delivery Service and, Mary and the Witch’s Flower.

There are some old faves like Ghostbusters, Hocus Pocus, E.T. and the VHS cult classic Monster Squad for some 80s & 90s nostalgia.

Tim Burton films with their delightfully macabre style feature heavily on the list and are a joy to watch.

Slightly older kids that enjoy some light scares will love the wackiness of Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands.

All of these can be found on Amazon Prime video (USA) or (click here for Amazon Video Australia), or on various streaming services including Netflix and Disney+. Availability may vary regionally.
