I’m a city girl at heart, but sometimes it’s nice to get out into the fresh air and wide open spaces. Luckily in Melbourne we don’t have to drive for hours to experience the country life, we have a farm in the heart of the city just on the banks of the Yarra river. The Collingwood Children’s Farm was the setting for a delightful bloggers’ brunch hosted by Dairy Farmers to celebrate the launch of Dairy Farmers new Thick and Creamy Yoghurt.
And what a lovely day it was. Melbourne weather played nice for a change the air was warm and the sun was shining bright. The entertainment was provided by a photo bombing chicken, and we all got to fill our hungry bellies with some delicious Thick and Creamy Yoghurt and a brunch feast in the most gorgeous of settings.
Before brunch we had some time to wander around the farm and enjoy some cute animal antics. There was even a milking demonstration thanks to Betty the Cow. I didn’t volunteer to be a milk maid, but a few other bloggers tried their hand at it. Betty had a lovely temperament and was pretty cool about the whole thing.
In the meantime, that photo bombing chicken was on a mission. I’m glad I chose to wear my read wellies as there were animal ‘landmines’ everywhere, but that’s farm life for you.
All that chicken chasing and fresh air really worked up an appetite, and the brunch table did not disappoint. So many beautiful flowers and a delicious menu inspired by the new range of Dairy Farmers Thick and Creamy Yoghurt.
There was even a smoothie bar with a selection of yoghurt and fruit combinations to try. I had the most delicious banana smoothie, made with Caramelised Fig Thick and Creamy Yoghurt (which tasted amazing!), banana and honey all whizzed up in a blender. My friend Flo had Raspberry & Coconut blended with berries and a sprinkle of toasted muesli on top. Served in a jar for Pinterest worthy style.
The new Thick & Creamy Yoghurt is made with full cream milk, which gives it a smooth rich texture without added ingredients like gelatine. They’ve also increased the fruit content without being too sweet, and the flavours are delicious, just like a dessert treat that you can eat guilt free every day.
One of my favourite menu items was this Layered Cheesecake in a jar. So clever and easy to make in a few minutes. The secret is the filling, Lemon Cream yoghurt (which tasted just like cheesecake), mmm cheesecake.
You can make them ahead of time for a party and your guests will think you are super skillful in the kitchen.
