It’s only three more sleeps before I jet off to London with Emma in tow. To say we are excited about this trip is quite the understatement! We will be there for three weeks, yes, three whole weeks in one place because I really want to settle in and get a feel for the city. There is so much of London to experience and explore that I’m sure we will feel like we’ve only just scratched the surface, even after three weeks.
This won’t be my first time there, I actually lived in the UK and worked as a pharmacist for 2 years, but we were based in Kent and only managed to get into town for the occasional day trip. We were lucky enough to have access to a work vehicle so we used our weekends to explore the country side and the numerous historical sites and castles throughout the south of England and as far west as Cornwall. We became English Heritage members and got excellent value for money from those passes.
But that was over 12 years ago and London was calling me. The Mr wasn’t able to take any time off work, so Emma will be my travel buddy. We’ve got so many activities and places to visit marked down on our wish list, I’ve already done some planning to make sure we pace ourselves so it doesn’t all get too overwhelming for my 6yo companion.
I’m looking forward to exploring the areas around London’s north including Islington, Shoreditch and Camden (I’ve never even seen the canals that London is famous for), and can’t wait to spend some quality time in London’s museums and galleries. Although with a 6yo I’ll be taking advantage of the free entries to make several short visits rather than one long all day visit.
Emma is very excited to see all the iconic landmarks that she knows from movies and stories: The Tower of London, Big Ben, Tower Bridge and Buckingham Palace, riding the red buses and having afternoon tea with The Queen (I hope she’s not disappointed if The Queen has prior engagements).
We are also trekking out to Leavesden to visit the Harry Potter Studio Tour – these two muggles are very excited!
I’ll be blogging our adventures, so if you are interested in our experiences be sure to follow along on Instagram, or sign up for email notifications when a new post is live (there is a sign up box in the footer ⤵︎).
I’m off to pack.
