Always dreamt of jumping out of a giant birthday cake? Fancied swimming in a pool full of pink bubbles? Maybe even having a confetti shower?
Well your wildest dreams can finally become a reality at Melbourne’s newest immersive experience with a very sweet twist – Sugar Republic.
Aptly housed in a historic building that was once home to MacRobertson Steam Confectionery Works, birthplace of the iconic Freddo Frog and Cherry Ripe, Sugar Republic is a nostalgic celebration of all things sweet.
This interactive sensory experience will take you back to your childhood, with rooms dedicated to every retro sweet treat you ever enjoyed as a kid.
It’s not all play, you get to eat lots of treats as well!
Emma and I went along for a visit and as you can see in the video above, we both had a ball!
Sugar Republic was inspired by similar sensory exhibitions like Museum of Ice Cream in San Fransisco, but it’s creator Allison Jones has given this experience a very Australian twist.
There is a room dedicated to ice-cream, but here classic Aussie varieties like Bubble-O-Bill and Golden Gaytime take centre stage.
Emma particularly enjoyed the self-service Mr Whippy soft serve ice-cream machine, complete with the option of adding sprinkles or a Flake.
There are 14 different experiences in the exhibition including, a giant gumball machine that you can climb into, a Wheel-o-Treats that spins you up a tasty prize, and the highlight, a giant swimming pool filled with pink bubbles!
You can also enjoy sweet treats along the way including free lollies and snacks themed to every room.
Emma was a in full sugar rush mode by the end of the experience but thankfully she blew off most of her energy in the ball pit.
Other fun experiences include:
- Australia’s first ever neon art wall
- Doughnut Igloo
- Fairy Floss Swing
- Sherbet Rainbow Bridge
- Mini Cinema
- Interactive Sprinkle wall
If you need some colour in your life this winter head to Sugar Republic for some whimsy and a whole ton of fun. I guarantee you’ll go home with a smile on your face.
