Phryne Fisher is back! Fans of Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, me being one of them, have patiently waited for the series return of this visually stunning production to our small screens.
The Honourable Miss Phryne Fisher, swans into early 1929 Melbourne, fighting injustice with her pearl-handled pistol and her dagger-sharp wit.

As a Melbournian, I love how meticulously, and lavishly 1920’s Melbourne has been recreated in the stories, and it’s always exciting to see how some recognisable locations have been re-framed transformed to create Phryne’s glamorous (and sometimes not so glamorous) world.
And then there is the costumes! Beading, sequins, lace and silk velvet, it’s enough to make any girl swoon. Award-winning costume designer Marion Boyce has really captured the spirit of the period and Phryne’s femme fatale persona in every piece.
Emma and I were delighted to attend the preview evening of the Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries Costume Exhibition at Rippon Lea House & Gardens presented by the National Trust of Australia.
This brand new exhibition, set in the home of Aunt Prudence in the TV series, features never before seen series three costumes and props.
A red carpet welcomes into the exciting world of the 1920’s to experience this immersive exhibition.
Rooms of the mansion have been set up like sets that have props and costumes on display, but also fabric samples, so you can touch and feel the fabrics and beading.
Emma becomes a costume designer
Upstairs, go behind the scenes to discover the inspiration for the costumes and understand how they were made. Emma had a go at designing your own own dress.
A must see for fans of the show and lovers of period fashion.
The series returns to the ABC on Friday 8 May 2015 8:30pm and earlier seasons are available worldwide on Netflix
The Miss Fisher’s Costume Exhibition is open daily at Rippon Lea House from 10am – 4pm from 1 May to 30 September 2015 and will be touring nationally.
