We recently spent a weekend in Lorne, on The Great Ocean Road, enjoying our first taste of summer. Our stay was made all the more pleasant thanks to our comfortable accommodation at the Lorne Chalet in Apartment 38.
Centrally located, just a short stroll to the main street and the beach, we left the car in the under ground car park where it stayed cool and secure, and enjoyed exploring Lorne on foot. The balcony on the main living area is blessed with incredible views of the beach, close enough to hear the waves crashing, and a lovely spot to enjoy an early morning cup of tea or evening glass of wine.
As a family of three, we often stay in hotel style accommodation when we travel, with Emma sleeping on a roll out bed in our room. It’s can be cost effective, but now that Emma’s getting older, it’s feeling a little crowded. But there was no problems with personal space, as Apt 38 can sleep up to six people in 3 bedrooms.
We stayed in the master bedroom which had it’s own ensuite bathroom, private balcony with bush land views and TV with foxtel. Emma had her pick of either the 2nd bedroom with queen size bed, or the 3rd bedroom with 2 king singles (large twins). She opted for the twin bed room and was delighted to have the run of the large family bathroom with bath.
The apartment is roomy and could comfortably accommodate two couples or two small families (making it very cost effective), and is the ideal accommodation option for larger families that need a bit of space.
The decor is tasteful and it’s art and colour scheme is inspired by the cool colours of the ocean and bush land surrounds. We ate all our meals out (I don’t cook when on holidays), but if you prefer to self cater, there is a full kitchen complete with dishwasher and a barbeque on the balcony.
We were lucky to have lovely weather during our stay, but if it does get rainy, there are plenty of board games, books and a large library of DVDs to help pass the time. The only downside that I found was no WIFI, which isn’t ideal if you are taking a working break, but actually helped me to unplug a little and I actually enjoyed being somewhat disconnected from the interwebs.
Emma spent lots of time studying the games and DVDs and we squeezed in a few games of twister on Saturday afternoon.
As an added bonus the property has an outdoor pool with lush tropical style landscaping, which was closed for maintenance during our stay, but is available for all residents of the complex to use during summer.
