Southsiders rejoice, the food trucks have finally arrived! No longer do we have to cross the river to get our little piece of street food action, now that Hank Marvin Market has set up shop in Alma Park, St Kilda East.
As the sign clearly states, South Side’s Starvin’,and if the turn out last weekend is anything to go by, the locals all agree. We headed over later in the afternoon and many food vendors had already sold out. I was keen to try the woodfired bagels by Shtetl Bagels, but I’ll have to head over earlier next time because they are a hot ticket item.
The market rotates street-food vendors, fine- and fresh-produce merchants and community stalls each week to keep the options varied.
Emma and I grabbed some deluxe toasted sandwiches from the Tosta food truck, mine was laden with all the bad stuff that tastes sooo good: cheese, pulled pork, caramelized onions and the kicker, mac & cheese. It was delicious! At $13 a pop I wouldn’t categorise it as a ‘cheap eat’ but I’d eat another again in a heart beat (or as long as my heart holds out with all that artery blocking cheesy goodness pumping through my veins).
With Alma Park Playground to keep the kids entertained, and food, coffee (and even a bar) to keep the grown ups happy, Hank Marvin markets going to be the hot new family friendly place for locals to catch up this Spring and Summer.
