Tell us a little about yourself and My Poppet
Hi, I’m Cintia, mumma, maker and craft blogger.
I love collecting and using vintage fabrics, re-purposing unwanted textiles and garments, and generally creating something useful and beautiful out of things that were previously unloved. I am very interested in the process of making, and the fine line between an objects utility or desirability and obsolescence.
I prefer to use or re-purpose second hand or vintage objects rather than buying new products if possible. Most of my sewing supplies are gleaned from op shops or flea markets, I like the idea that objects all have a history, even if were don’t know what their history may be.
My crafting skills cover many disciplines and include crochet, sewing (clothing, toys, soft furnishings), needle felting, paper craft, quilting and work with digital media and photography.
I enjoy writing the My Poppet blog and hope to encourage and inspire readers to be creative and resourceful. I feature one original DIY craft based project a week aimed at readers of all skill levels.
My Poppet also has and online shop where you can purchase PDF patterns & ebooks, Vintage craft supplies, fabrics and sewing kits, as well as one of a kind handmade items.
How would you describe your style?
I have an eclectic vintage style and enjoy working with lots of colour. Textiles from the 60’s and 70’s are my favourite with bold designs and vibrant colours, but are getting harder to come by. I love to re-purpose unwanted things, and have made lots of projects with old blankets, knitwear and tablecloths. I am very ‘thrifty’ and don’t like wastage, so I challenge myself to create things with even the tiniest of scraps.
I try to share my passion for re-using in my DIY posts on the blog.
What and who are you inspired by?
The objects and textiles I find tend to inspire me. I recently found a chair on the side of the road which I transformed with cross stitch. The positive feedback on that project has been amazing. I also love looking through vintage craft books.
Do you have any other creative passions, hobbies or talents?
My number one passion is traveling. I have a bad case of wanderlust and am constantly dreaming about my next trip.
I’ve been lucky enough to travel to 37 countries in my 37 years. I occasionally share travel stories on the blog. Read them here
What are the tools of your trade and what materials do you work with?
As an all round crafter, I tend to create with paper, yarn and textiles, but sewing is what I enjoy the most. I have a dedicated sewing space which tends to confine my mess to one room (mostly)!
As a blogger I can’t live without my laptop and camera.
What does the future hold for My Poppet?
Who knows? I’m really enjoying blogging and sharing my knowledge. My dream would be to publish a book, so we’ll see.
