If you’re looking for a reason to visit Ballarat, pop The Crafty Squirrel on the top of your list. This cute little craft shop is full of vintage and ‘kawaii’ delights.
Owner, Morgan Wills has literally been squirreling away vintage textiles and haberdashery for most of her life, and The Crafty Squirrel was the perfect outlet to share the love.
I’ve been friends with Morgan for over 10 years, it’s not surprising that we were drawn to each other with our mutual love of all things vintage.
It’s a little embarrassing that it’s taken me so long to visit Morgan’s store, I but could never seem to co-ordinate our trips through Ballarat, (on our way to the in-laws in Hamilton), to times when The Crafty Squirrel was open. But this weekend I suggested we have a family outing to Sovereign Hill, and took the opportunity to make a little detour to The Crafty Squirrel.
Morgan is a busy lady, when she’s not in her studio creating unique handmade products for The Crafty Squirrel, she’s out sourcing vintage craft supplies, or on buying trips to Japan and Hong Kong. She also runs very special craft tours of Tokyo twice a year – Amazing!
You’ll find lots of one-of-a-kind products including vintage textile craft kits, cute Japanese and Korean stationery and toys, French sewing notions, American embroidery kits and lots of vintage aprons, souvenir tea towels and tablecloths. It’s a visual feast! I challenge you to leave empty-handed!
If you can’t get to Ballarat, you can still buy a selected range of products via The Crafty Squirrel online store, or just give Morgan a call and I’m sure she can post something special out to you.
