Feeling the chill? I’ve got a quick little crochet cowl pattern that you can make in an afternoon. Made with ever-so-soft Premier Anti-pilling Bamboo yarn and pillowy puff stitches for extra coziness!
Well, we are currently in lockdown 2.0 here in Melbourne, so I’m keeping myself entertained with some crochet and plenty of TV.
Lucky for me I picked up some lovely new yarn from American Yarns to keep my hands busy.
Cozy Yarn for Chilly Weather
Premier Everyday Bamboo is made from Bamboo derived rayon and anti-pilling acrylic.
This chunky yarn is light, warm and super soft against the skin. Great for projects like hats, neck warmers and scarves.
Spun with three colours to create a soft heather effect, it’s very flattering to wear.
Available in 12 colours, with a nice range of neutrals and brights.
I really enjoyed crocheting with this yarn. It’s silky to work with and feels lovely to wear, almost as soft as angora.
Because it’s chunky, projects work up quickly. Perfect if you love instant gratification from your crochet projects.

This very easy cowl pattern is quick to make and can be whipped up with just one ball of Premier Anti-Pilling Bamboo yarn.
The puff stitches make a lovely textured fabric which is nice and warm. Ideal for keeping the chill off the back of your neck in the cooler months without needing to wear a bulky scarf.
Don’t be intimidated by the Puff Stitch. If you can make a double crochet (treble UK) you can do a puff stitch.
You’ll be surprised at how quickly this cowl crochets up. This one only took me an afternoon from start to finish. And because the pattern is quite simple, it’s the ideal crochet project to enjoy while watching a movie.

- Repeat step 1&2, now there are 5 loops on hook.

- Yarn over and pull through all loops on hook.
- Ch 1 to complete stitch.
Puff Stitch Cowl Pattern instructions:
This pattern is worked in the round. First ch1/ch3 in each row does not count as a stitch.

R2 – ch3, 1 puff stitch into each hdc space, sl into 3rd ch in round to close. (60)
R3 – ch1, hdc 60 into each puff stitch space, sl to close round into 1st ch. (60)
Repeat R2 & 3, three more times. 9 rounds so far.
R 10 – sl into each hdc space, and sl in 1st st to close round. (60)
Break yarn and weave in ends.
All done!
The last row of slip stitches helps reinforce the edge of the cowl and helps prevent it from stretching.
This stitch pattern looks great on both the right side, and the reverse.
Here’s the right side… each puff stitch is well defined.
And the reverse…
As you can see the rows look even more defined and the loops on the puff stitches are even puffier.
Wear whichever side you prefer as the outside of the cowl.

you have the sweetest face.
Thanks for your inspiration!
Could you make this longer to wear double, do you think?
Yes, you could double the chain stitches to start (or slightly more). Just measure your desired length and chain accordingly. Remember you’ll need extra yarn.
“R3 – ch1, hdc 60 into each puff stitch space, sl to close round into 1st ch. (60)”
Love the cowl. Just checking is the above correct – 60 in each st space – before I start. Thank you for your time!
Sorry, if it’s a bit unclear. It is one hdc into each puff stitch space with 60 st in total.
