Have fun with Gift Wrapping this Christmas – Beyond the Box

Easy Gift Wrapping Ideas - mypoppet.com.au

My favorite part of the gift giving season is the gift wrapping of course! I just wanted to share a few of the gifts I wrapped up the other day and hope that it will inspire you to ‘think outside the box’!

Yes it’s easy to make a boxed gift look pretty, but what happens when you have squishy irregular shaped gifts to wrap?

My suggestion is a sturdy brown paper bag.

Now where the fun really starts is gathering lots of little things that are laying about in drawers and cupboards around your home already, and thinking of ways to pretty up your parcel.

Don’t stop at paper, why not wrap your gift in reusable fabric or even pop it in a glass jar or tin?

Some fun things you can use for gift wrapping:

  • Yarn or string – make pom poms, tassels, or use instead of ribbon
  • Scrap fabric torn into strips for ribbon
  • Your children’s artwork – get the kids involved in making some unique wrapping paper, cut it into strips to use as ribbon
  • Assorted stickers – spots, stars, novelty
  • Craft pom poms
  • Washi Tape
  • Fabric tape
  • Vintage Christmas ornaments
  • Pages or Photocopies of illustrations or maps out of books
  • Paper doilies
  • Paper map
  • Newspaper
  • Confetti
  • Woven paper stars
  • Fabric as wrapping
  • Vintage wallpaper or vinyl adhesive (contact)
  • Leaves, gum nuts or flowers from your garden
  • Glass jar or empty coffee can

As you can see this is just the tip of the iceberg. My point is you don’t have to spend big $$ on expensive ribbon and shiny paper to get a fun interesting result. Because most gift wrapping will end up in the bin anyway, it’s probably better to save your money for what’s inside the parcel.

I hope you have some fun with your gift wrapping this Christmas.

Great minds think alike! I have a very similar looking thing going on with my pressies so far, some I've wrapped in xmas paper with a brown paper strip over the top & visa versa, then tied with lace & yarn, with a peg with the recipient's name written on it clipped on holding a “Merry Christmas” doily & a vintage Sesame Street snap card! Just in case that isn't enough, I'm going to stick a candy cane on there too. 😉

Love this idea! My boys would love doing this kind of 'activity' and I'd get little helpers to wrap all those family presents!!

I love washi tape, layering it and using it as a feature on wrapping is so much fun! I love the paper bag suggestion.

Very similar to Vic, this theming is right up my alley with a kindergartner in the house! I can't bear to throw out her art, so I never buy wrapping paper anymore! I will be recycling my wool from last christmas with washi tape also and perhaps some paper doilies with stamped messages – I am a stamp novice and LOVE it!! Beautiful styling as always Miss Cinti!! x
